Additional Gasket Materials

In addition to its wide selection of elastomers, Web Seal offers an extensive range of other materials, including corks, fibers, foams, sponges, plastics, high-tech and specialty materials.

We work with you to find the best adhesives and other complementary materials to combine into a unique solution for your application, along with recommendations for most effective die-cutting and assembling processes.

Web Seal also works with customer-supplied or proprietary materials. We have recently worked with customer-provided plastics for personal protective equipment (PPE), an experimental high-impact foam, and custom suede.

Cork / Cork-and-Rubber

Cork is a versatile, natural and economical sealing solution for many industrial, construction, and other applications. Web Seal can recommend the best cork or cork composite material for your specific sealing application.

More About Cork

Diaphragm / Cloth-Inserted

Seals, gaskets and die cuts can be fabricated from a variety of cloth-inserted materials (CI) or diaphragms.  Web Seal can recommend the best diaphragm or cloth-inserted material for your specific application.

Felt

Pressed felt, also referred to as technical felt, is designed in an assortment of grades to meet rigorous SAE standards for industrial applications, particularly for abrasion and wear.

Web Seal can recommend the best felt material for your specific application.

Fiber

Fiber is an economical material for a variety of applications and is available in a range of densities, thicknesses and colors. Fiber creates a good seal because it naturally swells slightly when exposed to moisture. Many varieties are produced to meet ASTM, SAE, and military standards.

Web Seal can recommend the best fiber material for your specific application.

Foam

Solid industrial foam is a versatile lightweight material that can be either flexible or rigid.  While the term foam is often used interchangeably with sponge, foam is produced with a distinct mix of ingredients by a unique manufacturing process and is used for different applications than sponge.  Polyurethane foams are quite flexible and primarily used for shock absorption and vibration control.  More structural foams are often used for filters and pads.

Web Seal can recommend the most effective foam material for your specific application.

Compressed Non-Asbestos (CNA)

Compressed non-asbestos (CNA) materials are heat-resistant and chemical-resistant substitutes for asbestos sealing materials. They provide similar strength and resistance characteristics as asbestos materials while eliminating the toxic hazards associated with asbestos fibers. These alternative materials incorporate carbon-based or organic materials as the reinforcing fibers in gaskets.

Web Seal can recommend the best compressed non-asbestos material for your specific sealing application.

Plastic

A plastic is a durable polymer material that maintains its shape when pressure is applied. Multiple variations of compounds are mixed with a variety of additives, fillers, stabilizers, and other derivatives to produce thousands of plastics, each with unique mechanical properties. Plastics are molded into shapes while pliable and then set into either slightly flexible or more rigid forms.

Web Seal can recommend the best plastics for your specific application.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA)

A pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) is a non-reactive, thin, flexible material that remains permanently viscous and can adhere to a wide array of substrates. It bonds to the substrate material by applying light pressure without the need for heat, water or other solvents to activate it. Parts with PSA can be provided by Web Seal with either single- or double-sided adhesive coatings, and with one or more release liners.

PSAs have been engineered to work effectively for nearly all materials used in production of gaskets, seals and other components. Web Seal can recommend the best pressure-sensitive adhesive for your specific application.

EMI / RFI & Thermal Management

Today’s automotive, medical, defense, communications, and other electronic technologies demand sealing solutions for electromagnetic interference and heat dissipation.

Electromagnetic interference blocking materials (EMI shielding) and radio frequency interference blocking materials (RFI shielding) prevent electrical "noise" from other sources from interfering with and impacting the performance of sensitive electronics.

Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) need to conduct away the heat that devices generate as efficiently as possible to maintain temperatures within safe operating limits. Growing technical demands make the selection and use of appropriate Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) critically important in the heat dissipation process.

Web Seal can recommend the most appropriate EMI/RFI and thermal management materials for your specific application.

Sponge

Sponge, or cellular sponge rubber, is a highly adaptable material widely used in many industrial and commercial applications.  Sponge offers the same flexibility as elastomers but with greater compression and additional properties.  Typically buoyant and lightweight, sponge is more compressible than solid rubbers.  Depending on its chemical make-up, sponge can be either open cell or closed cell.

Web Seal can recommend the best sponge material for your specific application.

Specialty Materials

In addition to standard elastomers and gasketing materials, Web Seal can provide sealing solutions that include a range of specialty materials including films and foils, thin metallics, shim stock, Scotchbrite™ and technical textiles.

Web Seal can recommend the best specialty material for your specific application.
